At Asbury our desire is to help you "Connect" in a way that will make your membership here more meaningful. Because of this, we have developed a process that assists in growing your relationship to Christ as well as the other members of the church.
When you commit to Christ, we all win!
Our Discipleship Process has four parts that are like the bases on a baseball diamond.
Hit a home run and you will:
- Know Christ
- Grow in Christ
- Serve Christ
- Share Christ
Along your trip around the bases you will meet team members who support you and will cheer for you every step of the way.
1st Base: Commit to Membership!
- Attend a "Welcome to Asbury" Session
This is a one-time informal gathering with the pastor and others interested in joining Asbury focusing on:
- Basic BELIEFS of Asbury Church
- Things you need to know to BELONG to Asbury Church
- What we are trying to BECOME at Asbury Church
On a subsequent Sunday after attending Welcome to Asbury, you may transfer your membership from another United Methodist Church by choosing to reinstate your Methodist vows or, after speaking with the Pastor, profess your faith for the first time and become a member of the church.
2nd Base: Commit to Maturity!
After the ball is in play, you will be coached to develop the skills necessary to grow in Christ to become an integral part of God's team.
This is two classes on the four 'Holy Habits' necessary for spiritual maturity which include:
- Worship
- Study of scripture
- Prayer in your devotional life
- Fellowship through small groups
3rd Base: Commit to Ministry!
Go to Bat for Others. Learn your personal strengths so you are placed in the optimal position to serve Christ.
This is two classes to discover your unique shape to serve Christ through your:
Spiritual Gifts
Heart
Abilities
Personality
Experiences
Home Plate: Commit to Mission!
Hit it Out of the Park. Go out into the community and share the good news about Christ. Invite those you meet to come play on Asbury's team!
A two-part class on Sharing Christ with the world.
The natural result of hitting a home run is 'Mission Mentality'. This is the understanding and acceptance of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) as the underlying motivation of your life and the reason for the church's existence.
Remember: There is no credit for being left on base!
